I am trained as a scientist, but the only thing I am an expert on, is me. What I do offer is over 25 years experience and knowledge dealing (and not dealing) with mental health and navigating the mental health systems in Alberta. If I am truly to tell you "About Me" I would say I am a human being with the capacity for empathy, growth, self compassion and deserving of love, the same as everyone else. As I share my life lessons both good and bad, I hope to show others the truth of these words.
Mind Breakdown grew from a want to reach others who, like myself have experienced or are currently experiencing difficult times in their life. To reach out through the isolation, shame, fear, anxiety, depression, societal and family expectations and be vulnerable (not to be mistaken for weakness) with my own experiences dealing with these very difficult issues. I want to share knowledge, resources, tools, and skills that I have picked up along my journey that have helped myself and others with personal struggles and everyday life. What really struck me, was how long some of these resources, knowledge and skills have been around and how little I knew of them till recently. I want to make this information more common knowledge and available for more people.
My hope is to help create an open and safe community where people can come to remember that they are not alone and that it can get better. I'm hopeful for a world where mental health is not looked at as an issue to be managed, but rather as something that people actively and openly communicate and work through, share their struggles, trials and successes judgment free. A world where we all practice empathy (as it takes practice), self compassion (also takes practice) and no longer hide our shame for fear of not being accepted. I encourage everyone to read and share my story. It will have something useful for anyone interested in learning more about the brain, resources for mental health and parenting, skills for dealing with stress, relationships, personal struggles, and workplace issues. Above all else, my story will be honest.
I am NOT a mental health professional. I do not have any professional training and only speak from personal experience. The topics I discuss in Mind BreakDown should not replace services from healthcare professionals and should only be used as an information source or entertainment. I encourage everyone to seek out the support and help that works for them and to dig deeper into topics that I discuss for themselves. As a visitor here, you are part of a fantastic community. I would be honoured to hear from you about struggles you may have faced and any tools or skills that helped you through your own darkest times.
Sincerely,
H. Wynn
